What's the role

The Trading Operator is part of the global Downstream LNG operations team reporting in the operations line of Shell Trading. The Trading Operator has a high level of commercial awareness of LNG trading, Terminal operations and knowledge of the ship chartering and bunkering business.

The Downstream LNG Operations team is responsible for the timely implementation, execution and optimization of physical LNG purchase & sales deals negotiated by their commercial colleagues, including scheduling, inventory management; fleet management; customer contract management; pricing & exposure awareness; finance & back-office management.

This is a complex external stakeholder environment that requires excellent people skills to protect the interests of Shell in potentially conflicting situations. Internally the operator owns the end-to-end deal implementation and execution and acts as spider in the web of internal stakeholders to make a transaction happen safely and compliantly with maximized commercial value.

The trading operator is able to handle a high workload, be resilient under pressure, prioritize tasks with conflicting deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy in complex accounting and administrative systems.

The Downstream LNG business is evolving from startup to scale up and continual development of operational processes and systems are essential to support business development.

The trading operator is responsible for all day-to-day operations duties as well as support business growth proactively.

Whilst the Operators are regionally based, actively working with fellow team members in Madrid, The Hague, Houston and Singapore is a must.

What you'll be doing

• Scheduling & coordination of day-to-day physical trading operations of assigned commodity portfolio
• Ensure that all obligations arising from the contracts are carried out timely & accurately, and all requirements are complied with
• Create value by identifying and exercising commercial and logistical optionality and by a proactive approach to operational problem solving
• Accurately & timely update trading IT systems with shipping data, inventory reconciliations, contract, and accounting data
• Ensure that adequate records are kept in line with legal and fiscal obligations
• Manage Backoffice requirements of all operational activities. This includes accounting, accrual management and efficient invoice processing for freight & storage costs, LNG product, taxes & any other charges
• Ensuring financial securities and credit requirements are in place
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory & HSSE requirements
• Support traders & business developers through reviewing and providing operational input into LNG supply & purchase contracts, freight contracts and other new business proposals
• Lead operational readiness for new business initiatives, ranging from new supply & delivery locations, new customers, and fleet & storage expansion
• Own, develop and improve Operations Processes for the activities within the portfolio
• Proactively share learnings & improvement opportunities to support building a high performing operations team
• Actively engage with the local and global teams and business functions such as Maritime, HSSE, Tax, Finance & settlements to ensure process alignment, business continuity and commercial added value
• Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with all internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, such as service providers; suppliers; customers; regulatory bodies; inspectors

What you bring

• Bachelor or master’s degree in business administration, Supply chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field
• Understanding of value drivers in LNG trading, LNG operations, Gas markets and Gas operations
• Fluent English both written and spoken is required; Spanish and Dutch are an advantage
• Strong forward and "big picture" thinking, curious nature and commercial acumen
• Strong proactive and problem-solving skills, as well as sound ability to well understand priorities, multitask and meet critical deadlines
• Well-organized with the ability to work independently and make risk-based and well-reasoned decisions aligned with the Company procedures and guidelines
• Trading risk management Knowledge or understanding
• Strong analytical and "eye for detail" skills
• Strong team player
• Well-versed in technology
• Self-driven and strong learning attitude
• Act with personal integrity and strong work ethic

Experience in trading operations, freight operations and chartering (preferably LNG or marine fuel/bunkering) will be a strong advantage.

The Operator is responsible for LNG terminal, truck, marine and break-bulk operations, and part of a team handling a worldwide trading activity. Each operator is expected to proactively handle requests out of normal office hours. Limited to moderate business travel.
