Job description

At Garanti BBVA International (GBI), we are enhancing our resilience and business continuity capabilities to address current and future challenges — including compliance with EU regulations such as the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA). We are seeking a motivated Intern to join our teams and contribute to the bank’s Business Continuity and Resilience Strategy. The internship is based at our Amsterdam Head Office

Why this matters

According to industry insights, business continuity is not only about recovery but about maintaining critical operations in the face of disruption — whether from cyberattacks, natural disasters, or operational breakdowns. Effective BCP involves:

  • Business Impact Analysis (BIA): defining acceptable downtime, recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO) and dependencies to systems, third parties etc.
  • Business Continuity Plans (BCP): ensuring essential services continue during emergencies.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: restoring IT systems with clear procedures, communication protocols, and alternate sites.
  • Incident Response & Crisis Management: ensuring rapid detection, escalation, triage, and coordinated response to incidents that could disrupt operations.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: involving stakeholders at all levels to ensure shared ownership and resilience.

Responsibilities

As part of our team, you will:

  • Support the development of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) tool.
  • Facilitate and perform BIA sessions for critical end-to-end processes with stakeholders (Business Teams, Process Owners, IT, etc.).
  • Extract, visualize, and present BIA results in Power BI dashboards.
  • Assess outcomes to support Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and contribute to periodic testing.
  • Assist the teams in implementing preventive controls, recovery strategies, and contingency plans in line with best practices.
  • Collaborate across departments on resilience-related initiatives.
  • Contribute to Incident Response and Crisis Management activities, including:
  1. Updating and refining the Incident Response Plan.
  2. Assisting in the design of incident detection and monitoring practices.
  3. Helping to establish major incident escalation and triage procedures.
  4. Participating in crisis management exercises to improve organizational readiness.

Job requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Business, IT, Risk Management, Security, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and propose practical solutions.
  • Skilled at gathering, interpreting, and presenting data clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Power BI or other data visualization tools is an advantage.
  • Strong motivation to explore risk management, cybersecurity, and resilience frameworks, with a keen interest in EU regulatory standards such as DORA.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, with a strong willingness to learn and adapt.
  • A self-starter, well-organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and oral) — essential for engaging with international teams.
