Job description

We are looking for an Intern for a work-along internship at the Transaction Services/Trade Finance Services team of Financial Institutions (“FI TFS”). The internship will take place in Amsterdam for a minimum period of 6 months.

FI TFS is part of ING Wholesale Banking. The team in Amsterdam holds a leading position in providing risk mitigation and financing of international trade. Counterparties consist mostly of foreign banks, with ultimate clients being exporting and importing corporates of ING Bank.

Key words for this department are: diversity, accuracy mixed with creativity, complexity, international exposure, entrepreneurial drive, and high performance under tight deadlines. This role is particularly suited for internationally minded individuals with strong organisational skills, commercial affinity, and a proactive approach.

Responsibilities

1. Processing/Pricing of Trade Finance Transactions

  • Handle flow trade finance transactions (e.g., letters of credit, stand-by letters of credit, guarantees) presented to the TS Sales team within set limits.
  • Responsible for transaction handling, arranging approvals, and completing administrative tasks after closing.
  • Check whether transactions comply with limits, tenor, and structure.
  • Arrange limit allocations, excess approvals, compliance waivers, and risk mitigation when required.
  • Monitor proper and timely processing of transactions.
  • Advise ING offices and external clients on pricing, risk appetite, and trade finance structures, escalating to specialists when necessary.

2. TS Sales Support

  • Support Regional Desks of the department based on need/availability.
  • Contribute to region-specific activities and initiatives.

3. Miscellaneous

  • Participate in additional activities or projects depending on need and individual capabilities.

Job requirements

Prerequisites

  • Candidate must be enrolled as a student at a University in The Netherlands on the date the internship ends.
  • Resides in the Netherlands and ready to work from our Amsterdam offices.

Personal Profile

  • Entrepreneurial/commercial mindset.
  • Ambitious personality with minimum Bachelor-level education (final stage Bachelor or Master’s degree in progress).
  • Organisational and analytical skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and professional approach.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Another foreign language is a plus (French, Spanish, Arabic, German, Chinese, etc.).
  • Good computer skills, especially MS Office/Excel and ING applications.
  • Interest in Banking, International Trade, and Transaction Services.
  • Familiarity with trade finance products (letters of credit, guarantees, trade loans) is a plus.
